General Infomation

Komagome is famous for variety of gardens to walk around. Immediately after exit You'll see Tourist information board, and make left toward Rikugien garden. Along the Komagome street, there are many Folk art stores, Japanese dyed garments, Japanese sweets and Japanese Cuisines etc. Due to good location, there are numbers of condominiums.

RIKUGIEN WALK The nearest and well maintained garden is "Rikugien"which is the most beautiful Japanese garden, literally means" Six poems garden" built around 1700 years. Rikugien is a typical example of the famous gardens of Edo Period. In the Meiji period, this garden became a second residence of the founder of Mitsubishi; Iwasaki Yataro. Later, Iwasaki family donated this garden to the Tokyo City.
In Showa 28(1953) Rikugien was designated as a special site of exceptional beauty and important cultural asset. This garden is quite spacious with central pond, islands, forest areas, Mountain area, in a sense, this garden is miniature sized Japanese landscape as well as representing of 24 Haiku seasons.

FURUKAWA TEIEN Across the north exit, you'll see "Somei Yoshino Memorial Park"where the mother tree of famous Somei Yoshino was expanded to The most of Japanese Cherry tree areas. Passing after this memorial park and go down several brocks, you'll see a tiny temple named "Ktobuki Jizo-Son"on your left sight. After this Jizo-son, you walk up hill along the stonewall, You'll reach to "Kyu-Furukawa-Teien",this garden was built by Furukawa Ichibei with British architect Josiah Coder's design. Uniqueness of this garden is wonderful collaboration of open-air Western garden and thick woods Japanese forest garden.
